Biography

Alak Zenkar Rinpoche Thupten Nyima was born in 1943 in Lhagang, Minyak, eastern Tibet, and recognized as the incarnation of Alak Zenkar Pema Ngödrup Rolwé Dorje, in the line of Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje. His principal teachers included the Sixth Dzogchen Rinpoche Jikdral Changchub Dorje and Khenpo Yönten Gönpo.

A leading Tibetan lexicographer and scholar, Rinpoche founded the Project for Searching and Making Available Rare Texts in Chengdu and has served as a visiting scholar at Columbia University and the University of Virginia. He has authored biographies of Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo, Jamgön Kongtrul, and Patrul Rinpoche, and his translations and oral teachings are published through Lotsawa House.
